Overview

This qualification is designed to help registered veterinary nurses to deepen their understanding of emergency and critical care nursing. The course will support learners to deliver more effective, evidence-based nursing care in small animal practice.

The modules include:

  • Emergency triage of the veterinary patient
  • Supporting the critically ill patient
  • Diagnostic procedures, anaesthetic and pain management
  • Nursing of cardiovascular and respiratory disease
  • Nursing of toxicity cases and gastrointestinal disease
  • Nursing of haematological and genitourinary conditions
  • Nursing of the neuromuscular, neurological and endocrine patient.

Programme delivery

This course is delivered online, with recorded lectures shared with students weekly to attend in their own time. Students will participate in tutorial sessions every two weeks, during which they can review course materials and find support with their assessments.

Students can also book one-to-one catch-ups with their tutor if they are unable to attend a session or require further guidance.

We expect that the course will take a total of 450 hours to complete – at a rate of five hours per week.


Assessment

This qualification is assessed through two assignments (including in-practice case studies) and two examinations (one multiple-choice exam and one short answer paper).


Fees

This course will cost £2,750, if paid in full before commencement.

Alternatively, it can be paid in three instalments of £1,000 for a total of £3,000.

Part 1: Due 10 working days before commencement
Part 2: Due after four months of commencement
Part 3: Due after eight months of commencement
