CCOAS attends vet centre open day

Visitors gain a glimpse the life of a veterinary nurse.

In September, we were delighted to meet with families and their pets at the Moreton Hall Veterinary Centre Open Day in Bury St Edmunds. Thankfully, the rain held off for the community event, where the public had a chance to go behind the scenes of the practice and try their hand at a variety of fun activities.

RVNs Caitlin and Athena, who were previously CCOAS students, manned a teddy bear bandaging station, where children could bring along a favourite cuddly toy and learn how to correctly dress an injury. Head of learning Karen Lee and RVN Aaliyah were also on hand to showcase a diverse range of veterinary nursing skills and speak to anyone interested to join the profession.

As well as being able to tour the facilities and meet a range of animals, visitors to the open day could also learn how to carry out chest compressions on our specialist-training CPR dog.

Karen said: “We love being invited to our local independent practice’s events.

“We were able to speak with many people about the skills involved to be a veterinary nurse and it was lovely to see all the children joining in with the bandaging and guessing what all the veterinary equipment is used for.”
