Student profile
Georgina started the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing course, having completed an Extended Diploma in Animal Management and worked as a pet care advisor within a veterinary practice. She has always been a proactive student, who has keenly partaken in any activity. Georgina has always demonstrated the professional attitudes and behaviour necessary for the profession. For example, undertaking further independent study. This, together with her clear passion for the profession, has resulted in her gaining confidence and competence throughout the course, and has enabled her to develop into somebody who will be a credit to the RCVS Register of Veterinary Nurses.
A word from Georgina...
“Prior to the course, I gathered a lot of experience in different animal working environments including stables, kennels and catteries, veterinary practices and pet shops. Through undertaking the Diploma in Veterinary Nursing, I feel I have progressed in my understanding of working with animals and the appropriate methods of nursing, including correct animal care. Variety is what I most enjoy about my career; every day is different when working in practice. Studying with the Central College of Animal Studies and being taught by enthusiastic tutors has enabled me to gain in-depth knowledge and provided me with the practical experience necessary to become a veterinary nurse. My aspirations following completion of this course are to become a dedicated veterinary nurse and potentially further my career into working in a referral centre focussing on kennel nursing in an intensive care unit.”
A word from David...
"I have always loved animals but found it very hard choosing a career path. Unlike many others who undertake veterinary nursing as their choice of career, I had no prior experience working in any sort of veterinary environment, having only previously volunteered at a small, local animal sanctuary specialising in the rescue and rehabilitation of unwanted snakes.
I discover CCOAS at a careers fair and immediately became interested in being able to help animals in the veterinary environment. I choose to study at CCOAS largely because of the welcoming environment and knowledgeable tutors. The tutors are very passionate about the profession and that in turn inspired me to work hard in order to become an exceptional veterinary nurse. Before becoming aware of CCOAS I did not know that a veterinary nursing degree was a possibility but upon researching I quickly decided that the diploma was right for me as the course seemed much more accessible and the closeness of the centre enabled me to stay at home while I studied. The support at CCOAS is one of the best aspects of the course. Tutors are knowledgeable and always happy to help address and questions and concerns."
